If you contact your local school directly they will be able to tell you if you are within their catchment area, they will also be able to give you details of any open days or their policy for visiting the school.
You may also want to read the school’s most recent OFSTED report to help you make your decision. Here
You may visit and or apply for a place at any school, however the admissions policy will outline who has priority (children with a statement of educational special needs, those with siblings in the school and those within the catchment etc) See your chosen schools website for full details.

Students in Kirklees have overall received some positive GCSE results.
Kirklees Council said results are ‘comparing well against national figures’ and results are slightly up on last year’s across the district.
This is the third year that mathematics, English Language and English Literature have been graded with the new grading scale of 9 to 1 (instead of the more traditional A to E). Following a string of other reforms, the new GCSEs are designed to be more challenging than ever before.
Results aren’t finally verified until later this year, but initial figures show a rise in Kirklees students who achieved at least a grade 4 (standard pass) in maths, up from 69.2 per cent last year to 69.5 per cent this year.
It’s a similar picture in English, where there is a slight increase in students achieving at least a grade 5 (up from 59 per cent to 59.1). In the Ebacc – a suite of five GCSEs which is taken by some students – there is again a rise in the number of young people who achieved a strong pass.
Heckmondwike Grammar School congratulated its students for their outstanding successes at GCSE.
Headteacher Peter Roberts said: “As well as some overall excellent results for the school, with all of our Year 11 students securing at least five good GCSE grades, there were also 71% of our students who achieved five or more 9-7. In addition, 50% of our Year 11 students secured an impressive eight or more 9-7. Our headline figure of 9-7 grades is 58%, which is very pleasing.”
In addition to these successes, there are also some exceptional individual stories, with the following students all achieving ten or more GCSEs at grade 9, 8, A* or A:
Lenah Ahmed, Areesha Aziz, Zainab Bhamji, Jack Branford, Jack Chan, Sophie Chatwin, Madeleine Convery, Elizabeth Drake, Lucie Glew, Amelia Glover-Jewesbury, Evie Hargreaves, Rose Hickman, Shawmiya Jegathasan, Lucy Jolly, Japnbir Kour, Naduni Mapatuna, Nipuni Mapatuna, Isabel McNulty-Senior, Hannah McQuinn, Isabella Myers, Taha Naveed, Muhammad Parmar, Jay Patel, Maliha Patel, Ayesha Rekhad, Oliver Taylor, Malaika Wajid, Anthony Zhao.
Mr Roberts added: “These excellent results do not just happen automatically. They are evidence of the exceptional commitment and determination of Heckmondwike’s students who received outstanding support from the dedicated staff and hugely supportive parents.”
Over at Mirfield Free Grammar (MFG), Executive Principal Lorraine Barker said:
“I am delighted with the excellent results obtained by our students. 73% achieved English and Mathematics A*-C and almost half the cohort achieved all results of grades A*-B. Congratulations to staff and students; an amazing partnership.”
Spen Valley High School, Headteacher Hayley Clacy also praised her students with many ‘overcoming extraordinary barriers’ in order to do so.
The school said their were some exceptional individual performances this year, notably Holly Penberthy who achieved the highest average attainment and Suhayb Hafeez who achieved the highest Progress 8 score.
Ms Clacy added: “ I’m delighted that many have achieved their first choice Post 16 pathways including further study at Askam Bryan College, Huddersfield New College, Mirfield College and Leeds College of Music.
“Congratulations to all students, staff and families involved!”
Manor Croft Academy in Dewsbury simply tweeted:
We couldn’t be prouder of our amazing students. Their hard work and dedication has led to another outstanding set of GCSE results at Manor Croft.
Whatever the future has in store for them, we’re sure they’ll continue to excel.

Clr Shabir Pandor, Leader of Kirklees Council, said: “Thousands of students across Kirklees have worked incredibly hard to achieve their outcomes. Together with the Kirklees family of schools, we support all of our young people to aspire and achieve and to fulfil their potential. I am always proud of their dedication and commitment.
“We have a strong relationship with our schools and we know that the partnerships they nurture with students and families can transform and improve lives. This is an exciting time for many young people and there is a wide range of post-16 pathways available, including further education, apprenticeships and work-based training. We will do everything possible to support them in achieving their ambitions.”
